SimPlates worldwide approach plates for flight simulators for iPhone™ / iPad™ / iPod Touch™
| | | | | IFR Appraoch Plates for Flight Simulation SimPlates X |
| | | The iOS™ apps on this page work great with your iPhone™, iPad™, iPod touch™, or other compatible device only - however, they are NOT intended for use with your PC or Mac.
Your iOS™ device is designed to get compatible apps from the iTunes AppStore™. You are welcome to obtain our iOS™ apps, therefore, uniquely from the iTunes AppStore-- just as is the case for all equivalent apps from all other companies eveywhere.
These iOS™ apps (programs) have been needed to be specifically designed, programmed, and tested (a process involving hundreds to thousands of hours and specialized skills and tools) to work on iOS™ devices and they certainly do work great on them. However, this also means that they work on iOS™ devices only--purchases made via the iTunes AppStore™ are not compatible with and will not work on, for example, your PC or Mac.
If you'd like to use a given app for both your iPhone / iPad / iPod and its equivalent piece of software for your PC or Mac (where one is available), as some people do in order to get 'the best of both worlds', you would need to purchase these separately. This 'a la carte' system ensures that you pay for only that which you intend to use and is fair to all involved. At any rate, it could not be differently due to Apple's sensible policy that its AppStore is for iOS apps only and effectively that no 'intermingling' is allowed.
We thank you for your understanding that we are obliged to follow all other software vendors in following Apple's policies in this regard. |

"A must have for serious flight simulator pilot"

 | How do I purchase the iPhone™/iPad™ versions? | | Click on the link in the box above. This will take you to the iTunes™ AppStore™ where you can purchase it just like any other App for your iOS device. | | I have an iPad™. Will the graphics be 'iPad™-sized?' | | Yes! Our SimPlates app is 'dual mode.' This means that if you run it on an iPhone™ device, it will fit itself to the iPhone™ screen and if you run it on an iPad&;trade, it will naturally fit itself to the iPad™ screen. This also means that if you happy to have both an iPhone™ and an iPad™ device linked to the same iTunes™ account, then you will be able to run it on both devices in natural mode and have only paid once. In this policy, we are proudly in the 'elite' 3% of less of AppTunes app vendors who both offer native iPhone™ and iPad™ versions of the same app and don't charge seperately for them! | | What plates are included with SimPlates for iPhone™ / iPad™? | | With SimPlates for PC, for example on DVD, all the plates are included when you install the app. With this iPhone / iPad version, things are a bit different due to space considerations on your device (after all, the totality of SimPlates data is over 6gb) and because of iTunes limitations (they wouldn't let us upload a 6gb app, and rightly so.) So, the app works slightly differently. What happens is that the first time you request a plate, it connects to the Internet and downloads the requested plate from our servers. This usually takes at most a few seconds per plate. Then, this plate is now on your device and the next time you request that particular plate, it will already be there for you. Thus, what is stored on your device is what you want to see only. The only caveat to this is that if you plan on using this somewhere without an internet connection, you should download the plates that you anticipate using in advance. | | I want to use both the PC and iPhone™ / iPad™ software. Can I get a discount? | | We'd love to be able to offer this. Unfortunately, the iPhone™/iPad™ apps must be purchased via the Apple AppStore and Apple policy does not allow us to co-mingle promotions like this. (In fact, when you order the app, we don't even know that you are one of our customers). | | How does SimPlates integrate with my flight simulator program? | | It doesn't. Rather, the idea is that you run SimPlates on an iPhone / iPad next to your PC/Mac as you run your favorite flight simulator (typically Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, etc.) You bring up the plate you want and view it on your device rather than printing it out, as you would with the PC version of SimPlates. We have tested this with serious simulator pilots using MSFS and both iPhone and iPad. It works great with both, though obviously slightly better with iPad, as there is more space to view the plates. | | How many plates are included / What is the plate coverage? | | Essentially identical to that of the Safelog X PC program. Be sure to read the FAQ at the bottom of the main SimPlates page as most things there, including the number of plates, coverage info, up-to-datedness info, limitations against real world use, and warning that a small number of plates may be unavailable apply to this app too. | | Do I need to be online to use SimPlates for iPhone / iPad? | | You must be online to make the initial download of a given plate. However, once it's on your device, you don't have to be connected to see it. There is an 'offline mode' switch in the filter that shows you only those plates which you have downloaded already, in case you plan on operating offline for a while. | | How do I delete plates from my system? | | There is no mechanism for doing this, as the total amount of space that the plates take up is likely to be small. However, in theory, what you can do is delete SimPlates from your device which will remove all downloaded plates, too. Them, you can re-download it from iTunes and start fresh. iTunes will not charge you for this if you do it from the same iTunes account as before.. |
